(A Post Graduate Course on Food and Nutrition Security for Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia)

The Summer School is a one-month postgraduate course, organized and offered by SEARCA, on the general theme of sustainable development and food and nutrition security consisting of six modules on topics that contribute to the understanding and practice of Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development (ISARD) in Southeast Asia.
The modules will highlight relevant concepts, principles and interrelationships dealing with sustainable development, sustainable rural development, food and nutrition security, sustainable agriculture and natural resource management, food systems and the Post 2015 agenda as the overarching global direction for sustainable development.
The approach will be integrated, systems-oriented and building on case studies and experiences from field trips which will highlight approaches and good practices in enhancing food and nutrition security in the context of sustainable agriculture and rural development in the Southeast Asian region.

Open to graduate and postdoctoral students all over the world interested in acquiring deep understanding of the drivers of Southeast Asia's agriculture and rural development and the interplay of factors that affect the sustainability of food systems.
Preference will be given to applicants whose thesis topics are directly related to food and nutrition security, or those at the planning stage that can still be enhanced by the course.
Applicants will be required to submit the following documents on or before 31 August 2014:
A two-page copy of research plan with a certification from thesis adviser or research supervisor if at the research proposal stage or a copy of approved research outline if already conducting the research
Motivation letter/letter of intention addressed to The SEARCA Director
Live-in rate: $1000 (early bird rate $950 on or before 31 August 2014 extended until 15 September 2014) covers training fee, accommodation (triple sharing) at SEARCA Residence Hotel, airport transfers and field trips Live-out rate: $500 (early bird rate $450 on or before 31 August 2014 extended until 15 September 2014)
All other expenses associated with the summer school (international air travel, visa, airport terminal fees, travel/health insurance, and other personal expenses) are at the participants’ own expense.
