A Survey of Diamond-Back Moth (Plutella xylostella Linn.) Populations for Resistance to Insecticides in the Philippines
Thesis Abstract:
The resistance of 12 Plutella populations to DDT and to five organophosphorus insecticides, usng third-instar larvae, was studied.
As shown by the resistance factor (FC), the College and Kanlaon Putella populations were resistant to DDT, while all the populations were markedly resistant to methyl parathion and malathion. The College, Daet, Ligao, Bugias, Atok, Guinobatan, Buhi and Kanlaon populations were slightly resistant and those from Claveria, Trinidad, Baguio and Bukidnon, highly resistant to diazinon.
Only the College, Daet, Ligao and Bugias populations were susceptible to mevinphos, but they were resistant to DDT, methyl parathon, diazinon, malathion and dichlorvos. The Atok, Guinobatan, Buhi, Claveria, Kanlaon and Trinidad populations, highly resistant to dichlorvos. The College, Daet, Ligao, Bugias, Atok, Guinobatan, Buhi, Claveria, Kanlaon and Trinidad populations were slightly resistant to mevinphos; the Baguio population, moderately resistant; and Bukidnon, higly resistant.
In general, the Plutella populations were highly resitant to methyl parathion, malathion and DDT, followed by diazinon ang dichlorvos, and the least resistant to mevinphos.
The College and Baguio populations were resitant to Bayrisul and methomyl. The Baguio mevinphos (phospate) type-resistant population exhibited cross resistance to orthene and ta,aron (phosphoroamidothioate type): whereas, the College mevinphos-susceptible population, although resistant to methyl parathion and malathion (phosphorothioate type), was still susceptible to orthene and tamaron
