SEARCA opens 18th annual photo contest

THE Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) has announced the opening of a photo contest that focuses on innovations and solutions to the challenges faced by a Southeast Asian farmer.

SEARCA Director Glenn Gregorio said the 8th Annual Photo Contest, anchored on the theme "The Future of Farming: Pathways to Carbon-Neutral Agriculture," aims to find the best images most relevant to the theme besides its technical quality and impact.

"SEARCA is looking for creative images that depict the innovations and solutions to the many issues and problems being faced by a Southeast Asian farmer in a sustainable and environment-friendly manner," Gregorio said.

The photo should have a caption, in English, of no more than 100 words to explain the meaning behind the photo. Winners will receive trophies and cash prizes.

The first prize winner will receive $1,000, the second prize winner will get $800, and the third prize winner gets $600.

SEARCA Director's Choice will get $500; Philippine Department of Education Secretary's Choice, $500; Best Youth Photographer, $300; and the People's Choice Award, which will be determined through Facebook voting, will get $300.

SEARCA said the competition is open to all professional and amateur photographers of any age from Southeast Asia who are citizens of the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste or Vietnam.

It added that contestants can submit as many original photos as they like and for as long as these meet the photo contest specifications.

Photo submissions should not have been digitally altered or enhanced, have not won in any past photo competition, or have not been published elsewhere (print or electronic).

All entries must be submitted via the SEARCA Photo Contest website on or before Jan. 15, 2025.
