A Philippine government-hosted intergovernmental treaty organization in collaboration with a United Kingdom-based research organization has embarked on a project to make clean energy accessible to remote and underserved rural communities. Dr. Glenn Gregorio, Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) director, said the project, "Rice Straw Biogas Hub," is a three-year undertaking. Gregorio said the project will generate biogas as clean energy from waste rice straw and provide an innovative package of technology services for rice farmers. An annual Southeast Asia-wide competition launched by Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) for photography enthusiasts has set a November 30 deadline for submission of entries that focuses on emerging agricultural innovations for the next generation. SEARCA Director Glenn Gregorio said that for its 16th year, the annual photo contest launched by SEARCA is themed "Emerging Agricultural Innovations for the Next Generation." The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) has discussed partnerships with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) to accelerate technological innovations to boost farm productivity.
