(Indonesia), Master of Science in Agricultural Development (Gadjah Mada University)

Abstract:

The objective of this study was to analyze the sustainability aspect of the farming system, revenue ratio toward the cost, domestic resource cost, and the most priority commodity in Serayu Upper Catchment Area in Wonosobo, Central Java. Research was carried out for six months in two main vegetables producers, Dieng and Parikesit Village. Twenty respondents were randomly chosen in each field.

The results showed that the condition of the farming system of vegetables in the research areas did not guarantee the continuance of the farming system. There was not much thing to do about conservation handling and intensive usage of chemical manure. There was a government policy in the field of conservation which received good response from society and this was followed by technical and capital aid. Based on the results, Parikesit would rather perform continuance work than Dieng.

The activity of farm operation of vegetable commodity with various planting models in the research area was profitable. It was shown that the farming system will have the highest comparative advantage if it is carried out in Parikesit by applying multicultural planting model. However, farming system of vegetables commodities still needs input subsidy of seeds, triple superphosphate (TSP), insecticide, and fungicide.
