The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA)'s Youth in Agri Talk Show is airing its third episode on 31 March 2025 at 7:00 p.m. (GMT +8:00) on the Center's Facebook page.
The episode "Growing the Future: The Power of School and Home Gardens" will showcase the impact of school and home gardens and their significant role in promoting food security in communities. Philippine Department of Education Assistant Secretary for Operations Dr. Dexter Galban will be featured as guest expert.
He will answer compelling questions about gardening from young students in Cambodia, the Philippines, and Thailand during the episode.
ASec. Galban underscored how crucial it is for young people to learn about school and home gardening.
"Educating young people about school and home gardening is essential as it empowers them to become champions of health, nutrition and sustainability. It cultivates interest in agriculture that can enable them to nurture gardens and lead communities toward having healthier and locally sourced food options," he shared.
"It is our hope that school and home gardening can inspire generations of learners to pursue a healthier and more sustainable future," Dr. Galban remarked.
The SEARCA Youth in Agri Talk Show is a non-academic and non-conventional approach to promote awareness and learning about agriculture and its importance to Southeast Asian youth, particularly those in basic education.
The Center's first and second episodes, "Agri 101 for the Youth" and "Winged Warriors: The Unsung Heroes of Agri Land" featured basic education students from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore and garnered accumulated views of almost 300,000.
