CLSU boosts robotics capacity through SEARCA collaboration

THE Central Luzon State University (CLSU), in partnership with the Philippine government-hosted, Los Baños-based Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), marked a significant leap in its robotics capacity with a two-day training workshop on VEX Robotics.

In collaboration with experts from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, the workshop was conducted at the CLSU Precision and Digital Agriculture Center (PreDiCt) on October 24, 2023.

It was organized by SEARCA featuring expert trainers from Hytec Power Inc. who unveiled their latest Vex Robotics bundles.

SEARCA director Dr. Glenn Gregorio said the participants engaged in hands-on training, gaining invaluable experience in constructing robots and putting their information technology (IT) and engineering skills to the test.

"The workshop covered various aspects of VEX Robotics, including mastering VEX motors, leveraging the bump sensor for precision, using the wireless controller, creative robot modifications, and development of programs tailored for the VEX Robot," Gregorio elaborated.

The workshop was attended by faculty members from CLSU's IT Department, Engineering Sciences Department and the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.

A robot competition capped the workshop. Participants showcased their newfound knowledge and skills, exploring the full spectrum of sensors.

This collaborative initiative by SEARCA aims to position CLSU at the forefront of agricultural engineering, propelling the institution towards the cutting edge of smart farming technologies.
