LOS BAÑOS, Laguna --The first virtual youth camp organized by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) convened young professionals, agripreneurs, public servants, and students who lead projects and advocate for Philippine agriculture last June 19 via Zoom. SEARCA organized the youth camp to gather youth perspectives on challenges and solution in the agri-food system, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. THE Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) recently hosted a dialogue aimed at making the region's food systems stronger and more sustainable. Results of the "Breaking Silos: Transforming Agricultural Education and Research toward Sustainable Food Systems in Southeast Asia" dialogue will be used to inform the first-ever United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) in New York this September, SEARCA director Glenn Gregorio said. The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop and promote cooperation on education, training, research, technology transfer, and agri-incubation for the Philippines and the rest of Southeast Asia. The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) has been tapped by the Research Institute for Asean and East Asia (ERIA) to develop the Asean Guidelines for the Utilization of Digital Technologies for Asean Food and Agricultural Sector, its news release said. SEARCA is expected to complete the guidelines in June 2021. The development of the guidelines is part of the project “Enhancing Food Supply Chain Resilience and Food Security in Asean with Utilization of Digital Technologies” of ERIA with the Asean Secretariat. THE Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) has tapped a Philippine-based inter-government treaty organization to develop the guidelines for the utilization of digital technologies for agriculture in the Association of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN).
