The Study on Irrigation Function as Organic Farming Input on Coastal Sandy Soil (Case study at Yogyakarta Special Province Southern Coastal)

(Indonesia), Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering (Gadjah Mada University)

Abstract:

The study aimed to analyze irrigation display as pattern of soil water and nitrate distribution caused by using farm manure along with water irrigation in the sandy soil through a mathematical model.

Soil samples from a lysimeter were brought from Pandansimo. Animal manure was placed at the surface of the soil. Irrigation water was applied with discharge 150 cm3/min for one hour every day.

Validation of the model indicated that statistically and graphically, the mathematical model of simultaneous distribution of both nitrate and water in unsaturated soil was suitable to be applied for prediction of nitrate distribution on coastal sandy soil with animal manure. Results of sensitivity analysis showed that the most sensitive parameter was initial condition.

Based on the chart of soil water distribution, the soil profile from depth 10-40 cm indicated that soil water contents increased until 60 days but decreased at 50 cm until 30 days, then increased until 60 days. At 60 cm, soil water contents decreased below the initial condition.

Prediction of the nitrate distribution with irrigation discharge 30 cm3/min for five minutes every day for 60 days indicated that nitrate was not leached at 60 cm of depth.
