The Impact of Integrated Pest Management Program on Cabbage Farmer's Production and Income in Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java

(Indonesia), Master of Science in Agricultural Science (Gadjah Mada University)

Abstract:

This research was carried out in a central area of cabbage production in Banjarnegara Regency. The objectives of the study were to (1) find out the influence of the integrated pest management (IPM) program on the level of pesticide application in the cabbage farms; (2) find out the influence of IPM program on the cabbage production and technical efficiency; (3) find out the influence of the IPM program on the farmer’s income, profit, and economic efficiency; and (4) examine the efficiency of production factors usage on the cabbage farms.

Samples of research were chosen through purposive random sampling by initially differentiating farmers into two categories: IPM program participant and non-IPM participant. The study used primary and secondary data. Primary data were gathered directly from 60 farmers. Data were analyzed using double linear regression and Cobb-Douglas function type applying ordinary least square (OLS) method.

Results showed that IPM program had certain influence on the reduction of pesticide use (both liquid and powder) in the cabbage farms. The pesticide use of the IPM program participant was lower than that of the non-IPM participant. Cabbage production and technical efficiency between the two categories of farmers were also different. The cabbage production of the IPM program participant was higher than the non-IPM participant. Income, profit, and economic efficiency of the IPM program participant were accordingly higher.
