Expressed Needs of Home makers as a Basis for Extension Program Planning in Pila, Laguna, Philippines
Thesis Abstract:
The study attempted to identify the needs of homemakers in Pila, Laguna as a basis for formulating extensions program content and emphasis. Also determined were the perceptions of homemakers and program proponents and the influence of certain background factors on homemakers' perception of their needs.
The clientele-respondent group comprised 104 homemakers in four barrios in Pila, and the program proponent group consisted of the Project In-Charge and Home Management Technicians assigned to the training project for rural women in the Social Laboratory area. Statistical techniques employed in data analysis were frequency counts, percentages, weighted scores, coefficient of variations, analysis of variance, Spearman's rank-difference correlation, chi-square and t-tests.
The Pila homemakers were found to be selective in their perception of needs for subject-matter areas and subject-matter items. This differential perception necessitated the establishment of priorities for extension program emphasis. This selectivity could also be indicative of the specificity of problems confronting the homemakers, resulting in their perception of the relevance of some subject-matter items and the irrelevance of others.
The perceptions of the homemakers and of the program proponents differed significantly in terms of actual ratings and priority rankings for program emphasis. Thus, the needs of the clientele's own perception of their needs.
In most cases, the level of dissatisfaction of the homemakers with their percent conditions was not related to their perception of needs for the corresponding subject-matter areas.
Among the variables considered, only age and barrio of residence significantly influenced the homemakers' felt needs fro subject-matter areas. This suggests that extensions program for women should consider the importance of these two factors in program planning and implementation
