Albumin and Post-Albumin Genotypes in Philippines Carabaos
Thesis Abstract:
A total of 647 plasma samples from Philippines carabaos and 39 plasma samples from Malaysian carabaos were analyzed to determine the albumin (Alb) and post-albumin (Pa) polymorphism, their genotypes and frequencies by means of starct- gel electrophoresis.
Results showed the presence of polymorphism in Philippine and Malaysia carabaos. Albumin genotypes found in Philippine carabao were AlbA AlbA , AlbA Alb B, Alb B Alb B, Alb B Alb C, and Alb A Alb C. Frequencies of alleles AlbA, Alb B and Alb C were 0.0475, 0.09501 and 0.0024 respectively. Malaysian carabaos exhibited only AlbA Alb B and Alb B Alb Balleles, respectively. Genetic equilibrium was apparent.
As regards post-albumin polymorphism, genotypes PaF PaF , PaF PaS and PaF PaS were observed in both Philippine and Malaysian carabaos. The most common was genotype PaF PaS , and both carabaos had similiar frequencies of PaF and PaS alleles. Genetic disequilibrium occured in both cases.
