Employment and Income of the Vocational Upper-Secondary School Graduates in Ayuthya
Dissertation Abstract:
The study was conducted to determine the effect of various factors on the income and employment of the vocational graduates in Ayuthya, Thailand.
Data were gathered from the school records and interviews of 398 graduates and their parents. Mean, percentage, standard deviation, partial regression coefficient, simple correlation, chi-square, t-test and F-test were employed in data analysis.
Results revealed that graduates of different schools differed not only in employment but also in earnings. Trade and industrial school graduates had the higher incomes and home economics graduates, the lowest.
Of the five variables considered, only scholastic achievement and experience significantly affected the employment and income of the graduates, but the effects varied from sector to sector. Scholastic achievement was positively correlated with income in semi-government employment but negatively with that in government service.
Experience showed consistent effect among graduates in almost all employer-groups, except in the semi-government sector where scholastic achievement played the significant role. Pre-employment and inservice training tended to affect both income and employment of commerce graduates.
Employment and income were found to have no significant relationship to the school program, ability for vocational training, sex and parent’s socioeconomic status.
