A Comparative Analysis of the Experimental and Non-experimental Agricultural High Schools in the Philippines
Dissertation Abstract:
The study aimed to determine the difference between the experimental and non-experimental agricultural high schools with respect to the characteristics and school achievements of graduates and some external productivity factors. The respondents of the study consisted of 426 randomly selected graduates of 16 experimental and non-experimental agricultural high schools in eight regions of the Philippines during the school years 1976-77 and 1977-78. The data were gathered through personal interviews and mailed questionnaires.
Of the seven variables describing the characteristics of graduates in both types of schools, only the scholastic performance and the distance of residence to school differed significantly. In terms of their school achievements, the following 6 variables out of 10 differed significantly. There were the gross income of the project, total expenses, amount saved in bank, amount of credit availed, performance in agriculture subjects, and the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) scores. In terms of occupational placement, there were more graduates from the non-experimental agricultural high schools (NEAHS) who went for further schooling than those from the experimental agricultural high schools (EAHS). However, more graduates in the EAHS, none of the variables showed a significant relationship to occupational placement while in the non-EAHS, age, parents' occupation, and return on investment were found to be significantly related.
