Assessment of the Environmental Cost and People's Perception on Pig Farming (A Case Study in Sleman District, Yogyakarta, Indonesia)
Abstract:
This research aimed to examine the environmental cost through compensation and perception of people nearby the pig farms’ location in Gamping District. Contingent valuation method (CVM) and Likert scale were applied.
The results of the research showed that compensation was not common because the people have low educational attainment and socioeconomic condition. Demand from people or willingness to accept (WTA) amounting to IDR2,758,330 per year was higher than pig farms’ compensation or willingness to pay (WTP) amounting to IDR1,882, 665 per year. It was caused by the pig farms being a sensitive livestock.
Based on the economic, social and environmental aspects, it showed that the perception of people in Amberketawang Village supported pig farms’ operation.
