Nutrient media Affecting Growth and Development of Vanda sanderiana Young seedlings Growth in Vitro.

(Thailand), Master of Science (University of the Philippines Los Baños)

Thesis Abstract:

The Study was Condusted to determine the best nutrient media requirements using combinations of organic additives and growth regulations for in vitro of V. sanderianai seedlings.

Banana homogenate, coconut water, tomato juice, auxin (NAA) and peptone were used singly or in combination as nutrient supplement to Knudson C in the vitro cultures of 8 –month-old V. sanderiana  seedlings.

Result showed that treatment with NAA as the lone supplement produced the poorest plants and high mortality of seedlings. The addition of NAA to Knudson Cenriched with 50 g/l banana (Saba) gave better results.

The use of tomato, coconut water, tomato-coconut water and tomato-coconut water-peptone combination did not significantly improve the growth and development of V. sanderiana. Combinations of these supplements with banana produced better plants.

Maximum growth was obtained from media with banana as the line supplement, especially the Saba variety, at 100 g/l. The general score in all characters studied showed that Saba 100 g/l with 200 ml/l tomato juice and saba 100 g/l with 50 ml/l tomato juice were best media for the groth and development of V. sanderiana.
